The trouble with “mofo” is that it has a tremendously limited scope for being an insult. If the mother is one’s own, certainly, those who do not understand the many benefits that incest has to offer may be discomfited; but if the mother is one’s children’s, being called a “mofo” is rather like being accused of having a perfectly normal sex life. The final option is that the “mo” is someone else’s mother, and the rapid increase in usage of the neologistic acronym “milf” makes it clear that foing someone else’s mo is often something to be admired.
I can’t think of any other mos that can be foed (unless one is willing to look beyond Homo sapiens, in which case “mother” is so much weaker than “donkey”, “sheep”, “goat” or “hamster”, for example, that the person hurling this alleged insult is clearly missing a trick, and needs vocabulary lessons).
It therefore appears that the best insult USAns can come up with is one that works in fewer than one quarter of any of the senses in which it can apply. What a bunch of Cs!
